Fiber Basics for Hospitality Carpet
When buying or selecting hospitality carpet for your hotel, motel, or other facility, it is often important to understand the types of fiber used in the manufacturing process and which of those fibers suites your installation best.

Nylon Fiber: Nylon is one of the most widely used fibers in both commercial and residential markets. It’s most often used in the manufacture of hotel and motel carpet because it is durable (or wearable), it is resilient, easily cleaned and takes stain resistance easily. Nylon is generally suitable for most areas including high traffic areas in a hospitality setting.
Olefin Fiber: Olefin (or polypropylene) carpet is designed for use where resistance to UV or sunlight fading and chemicals is more important. Durability under high traffic is less important where this carpet is installed. Olefin is a widely used fiber with many design and style options
Wool Fiber: Wool is less often used in commercial facilities, but is an option in specific situations. Most of us are familiar with wool in our clothing. The wool fiber used in carpet is the same in many ways. It is a natural fiber with durability and resilience. Wool is also self-extinguishing when burned. Wool is sought for its luxury and performance. Because the manufacturing cost is higher than synthetic fibers, wool is most often used decoratively.
Of course there are many more details about fiber used to manufacture hospitality carpet. Other details include color and dying options, and price ranges which are outside the scope of this introduction. Please consult with your sales agent to determine which fiber is better for your installation and goals.
